This program is tailored to equip women+ with the skills they need to become a highly-skilled full-stack software engineer. You will be equipped with the expertise to excel in backend development using TypeScript as the programming language of choice. Developed in collaboration with Axel Springer National Media & Tech, this program is tailored to, and partnered with, their media tech teams, giving you a practical, hands-on collaboration which will help you thrive in the tech industry.

This program is run in collaboration with engineers and managers from Axel Springer National Media & Tech, which aims to hire from the graduating class into junior roles.

The program begins by covering foundational knowledge and skills in software engineering, before advancing to tackle algorithms and full-stack essentials. Our curriculum then focuses on modern backend technologies, allowing you to use TypeScript to explore topics like cloud computing and databases. This program gives you hands-on experience in real-world applications, with a strong emphasis on software architecture and system design. If all of this sounds unfamiliar and scary to you: don’t worry! We’ll teach you everything you need to know.

Fill out the application form and tell us more about your educational and work background as well as your motivation for the course. You will be asked to upload an audio presentation and your CV. This helps us assess your course suitability and commitment.

After submitting your questionnaire, we will review it and get back to you. In the case that you’re eligible to join the course, we will schedule a call together and send you the course offer to be forwarded to your advisor for their approval.

This stage requires you to get approval for this course from your advisor at the unemployment agency.
*This process may take several weeks, the earlier you start your Bildungsgutschein process the better.

What is a Bildungsgutschein?
A Bildungsgutschein is an educational voucher issued by either the Agentur für Arbeit or the Jobcenter (German unemployment agencies), it allows you to join a course at a certified educational institution for free.
You can receive a Bildungsgutschein if you are registered as unemployed at the Agentur für Arbeit or at the Jobcenter.
Please note that the educational voucher is not a guaranteed benefit.
What is a Talent Accelerator?
As a potential student, a talent accelerator is an intensive, instructor-led program designed specifically for you. Conducted live online in English, it offers a unique, employer-led curriculum focused on equipping you with both technical and soft skills relevant to Axel Springer National Media & Tech. The program is inclusive, welcoming everyone from underrepresented individuals to seasoned professionals seeking to upgrade their skills.
In this immersive program, you’ll learn from industry experts, engage in hands-on activities, and prepare for certification exams. You’ll have opportunities to network, receive job placement assistance, and get help preparing for interviews. Once you’ve graduated, you’ll continue to receive support through additional learning opportunities to ensure your successful transition into the workforce.
I don’t have any experience in tech, can I join?
Absolutely! You do not require any professional or tech work experience to participate in this course.
However, it would be preferable to have some basic knowledge in tech skills such as HTML, CSS or JavaScript.We do ask for one of the following qualifications:
How does this differ from a coding or career bootcamp?
Our program is not a bootcamp; it’s a fully immersive experience developed in collaboration with top tech employers and their ecosystem.
It’s designed to not just train, but to pave a clear pathway towards employment in the tech industry. You’ll have the chance to interact with hiring managers from Axel Springer National Media & Techand its partners, participate in hiring events, and receive guidance on job applications and interviews.
Upon graduation, you’ll continue to receive support including job placement assistance, making this program a well-rounded, employment-centric solution to your career progression needs.
I don’t have any experience in tech, can I join?
The course is only open to Women+ living in Germany.
Is it possible to join the course in person?
Unfortunately not. The course will take place online, in a live setting with instructors and teaching assistants. During the course some days might take place in person and in Berlin.
Is attendance compulsory?
Yes, attendance is compulsory for the whole duration of the course.
Do you provide a laptop for the course? Can I keep the laptop after the course ends?
Yes – we will send you a MacBook.
If you complete the full program and graduate – you are welcome to keep the laptop.
Do I receive a certificate at the end of the course?
You will receive a StartSteps certificate that states the course content details and the course length.

Is there a job guarantee? Will I get a job at Axel Springer National Media & Tech?
We don’t provide a job guarantee for this course.
During the course you will have the chance to talk with Axel Springer National Media & Tech’s hiring managers and to go through their hiring process.
It will be possible to apply for internships, graduate roles and junior positions.
Do I need to do a StartSteps Orientation Course (Compass or Tech:Mentor) before beginning this course?
While we recommend it, participating in the orientation courses at StartSteps is not mandatory.
These courses provide a valuable opportunity to explore a variety of skill areas and get a feel for various courses and bootcamps where you could potentially utilise your education voucher.
It’s an excellent preparatory program that can enhance your confidence before embarking on the Axel Springer National Media & Tech course. Not only will you gain an introduction to a range of tech disciplines and soft skills, but it can also serve as a productive use of your time if there’s a gap until the next course commences.
